The Secure Unified Research Environment (SURE) has been developed by the Sax Institute as part of the Population Health Research Network (PHRN).

The Secure Unified Research Environment (SURE) is a remote-access computing environment that allows data users to access and analyse linked health-related data files for approved studies in Australia.

SURE aims to:

  • Minimise the risk of privacy and/or confidentiality breaches when conducting research using linked, de-identified health and other data, by supplying a remote-access computing environment with comprehensive security features which replaces a researcher's local computing environment;
  • Improve the accessibility of linked data to accredited researchers undertaking ethics committee-approved population health, health services and related research;
  • Make collaboration between researchers from different institutions easier and more efficient;
  • Provide a high performance computing environment with enhanced speed, storage and cutting-edge analytic software and tools to researchers.

SURE was officially launched by the Sax Institute on 5th July 2012 in Sydney.

For more information on SURE including its design, security features and the process for access, please visit the SURE website and contact the Sax Institute directly.
