Information for data release for cross jurisdictional projects
Each Cross-Jurisdictional Project involves a two-step data release process from jurisdictional data linkage units and data custodians. Linkage Variables (only) is required by the Centre for Data Linkage (CDL) or the Australian Institute for Health and Welfare (AIHW) to undertake national linkages. Linkage variables include fields such as: name; date of birth; sex; address; record date and other unique identifiers (such as hospital medical record number). Note that the linkage quality improves with the number of linkage variables available. The researcher, on the other hand, requires de-identified content data such as diagnosis or procedure codes in order to perform the project analysis. The figure below demonstrates the cross-jurisdictional data flows that occur with cross-jurisdictional projects.
